Keeping Kids Active

It can be tough to keep children active in the hours after school. Trying to keep them from sitting in front of the television for hours on end can prove to be a very challenging task. There are quite a few ways that can be implemented into a child’s everyday activities that will help to keep them off the couch. Doing active things around the house as well as outdoors are probably the most influential.

Household chores that require physical movement are one way to keep a kid’s activity up. Taking out the trash, for example, keeps them exercising and helps in teaching them responsibility. Having them sweep and mop the floor and/or vacuum the carpets are other good ways to achieve both of these goals.

Active outdoor play instead of inactive television time is a key factor in keeping a child’s exercise level high. Encouraging them to play outdoors may require some participation by the parent, but it also sets a good example by showing them that parents can be active along with the child. Get involved in sports clubs and other non-school programs. It might prove to be fun to get out of the house and do something aside from work. A child will see the parent getting involved and it will encourage them to stick with it. If a child knows that their parents are proud of them, they will strive to do their very best. Household chores and outdoor activities are very good ways to keep a child active and healthy.
