Eating healthier can be as simple as a mindset. When our stomachs growl and our appetites have peaked is the worst time to decide what to eat. At that point there is limited self control if any at all. Planning what you are going to eat and when you will eat it for the whole day is one way to make sure you don’t binge or drive through the fast food restaurants for a meal.
First you must shop when you are not hungry. Pick out healthy alternatives to processed foods and empty calories. We are supposed to eat to stay healthy not to cave to our cravings. For example, buy a roast, potatoes and vegetables that you can put in the crock pot. It will give you a great meal to look forward to when you get home from work and nourish your body at the same time.
There are many reasons why eating several small meals a day is healthy. For one, it balances out your blood sugar all day long. You’ll have no insulin peaks or lows. Five or six small meals or snacks a day is a great way to speed up your metabolism too. Purchase nuts, fruits and vegetables to put in containers to munch on through out the day. Or you could bake some oat bran muffins. They are tasty, filling and help reduce the bad cholesterol levels.
It only takes 21 days to establish a habit. Make up your mind to make menus for several meals a day for a week at a time. In three weeks you will be settled into the new and healthier routine. By then you will feel better and look better. Who can ask for more than that?
