Motivating Teens To Exercise

Parents usually know by the time their child reaches his or her teenage years the motivation they are going to have, such as if they sit in front of the television or participate in sports. It is very important for the parent that has a child that appears not to be moving around a lot to encourage them to try different things that will keep them exercising.

If parents do buy any type of video game systems for their teens, then they should really look into the systems such as the Wii, which is a great way to be up and moving. A game like the “Rock Band” series is something parents can get involved with and find fun times in singing classic rock and roll as everyone dances. Teenagers can get an excellent workout by having access to a bicycle, which works out almost every muscle of the body. Parents can plan one day a week that all family members take a casual bike ride and just talk or push things up a notch and race one another. Teenage exercise should always be initiated by parents providing some suggestions, such as walking to the store instead of being driven. In fact, parents can send their teens to the store to pick up things they need because not only does this provide them exercising, but it shows them responsibility.

Teenagers face a crucial time with other peers, such as if the teen is overweight they could be at risk for being teased and that is something that nobody wants done to them. Teens need to feel a strong sense of self-esteem, so keeping them active can help keep them in shape and not face the risk of peer pressure.
