Young Adults and Fitness

Most young adults fall on the far ends of the fitness spectrum. They are either very much in shape and work out or they are couch potatoes. More and more they are couch potatoes. This is not a good thing. These overweight kids are growing up to be overweight adults with higher levels of heart disease and diabetes, but what can we do to turn this trend around?

Go for a walk and take your cell phone with you so you can text your friends. You will find this will make the time go by faster and it will not be as boring. Some towns have great walking trails along streams or around parks. This is a great low cost activity. You will want good walking or running shoes, but other than that it will only cost you time.

A big problem with exercising is it gets boring day after day. To fix that, mix things up by doing different things. One day you can play some basketball and the next day play Frisbee. Make a plan of what you are going to do and stick to it. If you can get a few friends to workout with you, it will be fun and good for everyone involved. Working out is not the only thing you can do to be healthy. Eating well-balanced meals with proper portion sizes well help. Overeating and not having healthy food has put a lot of young adults in the over weight side of the scale.

The thing to remember is that exercise could not hurt. Start with stretching and end the same way, but do not over do it at first. Start out slowly and work up. If you hurt yourself you will have a bad experience and never get into the fitness habit.
