Staying Active for Seniors

It is important for senior adults to stay active especially after retirement. Some senior adults stay employed long past their retirement age. Working longer has made seniors keep their minds and bodies sharper since they are active both mentally and physically daily.

Active senior adults have better balance in their lives then the less vigorous senior adults. Physical activity without cardiovascular restriction can help the effects of aging and reduce the risk of bone injuries caused by falling. Take interest in sports activities, for instance, golfing, swimming and in bowling all can help manage stress, depression, and enhance your mood.

Other suggestions would be to make small changes daily. For instance, stay in contact with co-workers, have lunch or dinner with them. Also, think about volunteering your services at a local charity or hospital for as little as four hours a week. This will give you an opportunity to share your special talents and skills. You can look into starting a small home base business and use your skills that you have learned from past employment experiences.

Staying active both physically and mentally is important for seniors. If an older person resigns themselves to inactivity they are more likely to suffer from depression and health problems.

It is not only physically beneficial but emotionally and mentally as well. It is important to still travel, earn your own income, exercise, and even maintain a healthy sexual relationship with your spouse. Aging does not have to end the spunk in your life, so remember to always stay active and vibrant even in your golden years.
