Obesity is quickly becoming a silent killer in the United States. Foods that are high in fat and low in nutritional value are appealing to the old and young. However, the lasting effects of these fatty foods can be dangerous.
Many adults are obese as a result of poor eating habits learned when they were children. They in turn teach these habits to their children and the cycle continues. Parents though should be aware of the effects that poor eating habits can have on them and their children.
When parents fail to realize the importance of healthy dieting and exercise, it is sometimes left up to the child to motivate the parent to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
If you are trying to motivate your parents to exercise, remind them of the effects of exercise. Exercising not only makes you look better, it makes you feel better. If your parents are older or have ailments such as arthritis, this could certainly benefit them. Sometimes, a little bribing helps. Offer your parents a luxurious dinner or shopping spree if they exercise on a daily basis. If they are competitive, offer a little friendly competition to make exercising more interesting. If you have children, convince your parents that they should exercise to set an example for their grandchildren and to live longer for them.
Getting your parents to exercise may seem like an impossible task, but stressing the importance of exercise is a must. You love your parents and want them around for as long as possible, and by simply exercising a few days a week, this goal may be attained.
